Mulatu Astatke - Tezeta - Live From RAK Studios, London

In 2024 Strut Records spent two weeks at RAK studios, London, with the Godfather of Ethio-Jazz, Mulatu Astatke, to record his first contemporary album in over a decade.

The resulting album, 'Mulatu Plays Mulatu', is a retrospective of the culmination of 50 years of Ethio-Jazz, featuring classic tracks re-worked from years of touring and playing with Mulatu's band both across the world and at Ethiopia's Jazz Village in Addis Ababa.

 During this time we were lucky enough to capture a live rendition of one of Mulatu's beloved tracks, Tezeta. Tezeta is both a distinctive Ethiopian scale, and also a love letter to Mulatu's home country.
